This morning we had a great lecture and demonstration from the ship’s captain about the history, construction, sails and sailing of the Sea Cloud. Then the crew went aloft into the riggings and released all of the sails. It is breathtaking to see all of the sails filled with wind.

We spent some time wandering the ship and taking photos...
and also relaxing.
In the afternoon we arrived at the small town of Korčula (pronounced Korchula) on another small island on the Croatian coast by the same name.
We visited St. Mark’s Cathedral

and the Bishop’s Palace that is now a museum (had a lot of coins on display).
Afterwards we wandered the town a bit
we all went to the amphitheater for a performance of the Moreska Sword Dance. This dance has been around for centuries, but it is only still performed in Korčula. It is the story of a bad guy (he and his troops are in black). The hero and his troops (in red) then fight a battle with and defeat the bad guys and win the fair maiden.
The swords didn’t look sharp, but they were of real steel and sparks
flew on a number of occasions. And the dance
was pretty exhausting; the performers were breathing pretty hard at the
end.

The harbor at Korčula was pretty busy and the scenery was lovely. And the Sea Cloud looked ethereal at anchor.
